March 20, 2008 We have no snow to speak of. Trails are closed until conditions permit (if they ever do). The 2007/2008 season officially ends March 31, 2008. Expect limited signage if we do get snow before the end of the month as trail bosses have already started removing signs. February 27, 2008 Trails are open while conditions permit. After riding 35 miles around Slaterville and Dryden tonight, I'd have to say that the conditions are fair to poor. We ended up with 4-8" from the storm and there isn't much to it. Quite a few sleds have been out and the snow is packed down to a 1-2" slippery base. I was getting very poor hook up even with my Renegade. We really need more snow before getting the groomers out. Unfortunately, the forecast does not look promising. If you do ride, please respect land owners and use extra caution. The thin snow offers little protection from trail hazards. February 26, 2008 Trails are now open while conditions permit. Our "season" can finally begin! The area has been blessed with 6-10" of good moist snow. Groomers will be out soon to get this stuff packed in. In the meantime, treat the conditions as early season snow and be extra cautious of trail hazards. Please respect land owners and stay on the marked trail. If you notice any signs down or missing, please contact the area trail boss and ask how you can help to improve the trail. February 18, 2008 It is 50F and what little snow we had is gone. Trails are closed until further notice. The Seven Valley Snow Goers in Cortland report that the C5-A trail from junction 123 south to Virgil is CLOSED due to a landowner issue. A farmer witnessed a few disrespectful riders tearing up a newly seeded hay field and has closed the trail to everyone. This is what we should expect when people abuse the privilege of snowmobiling on private land. February 15, 2008 Thanks to the recent cold temperatures and a little bit of snow the trails are now open for riding where conditions permit (ground frozen and enough snow to avoid property damage). Please be aware that conditions are poor/fair and riders should use extra caution, good judgment and expect the usual early season trail hazards including: rocks, stumps, ice, open water, trees down, etc. Be sure to stay on the marked trail, use common sense, ride in control and avoid damaging property or frightening livestock. February 8, 2008 There is no change to report. We have had a lot of rain and some flooding. There is now a dusting on the ground with no base. Trails are still closed. We will not be riding sleds for the poker run this weekend. You can still buy hands from 10am-5pm at the Dryden VFW. Please help support the club by buying a hand, but do not ride the trails. See the events page for details. The forcast is for colder temps next week and the possibility of some snow every day. January 25, 2008 There is no change to report. The 7-day forcast looks like more of the same. Trails are still closed. January 20, 2008 It snowed every day this week, but it amounted to little more than a dusting. The ground is white with 1-3" of fluff and no base. The trails are still closed until we get enough snow to ride without tearing up the land. January 13, 2008 There is no snow to speak of and zero base. The trails are closed until we get snow. January 3, 2008 There is currently 3-8" of snow with minimal base. The upper elevations have some decent riding. The cold temps last night helped freeze things up quite a bit, but you should expect lots of wet holes and trail hazards (stumps, rocks, ruts, etc) for this early season riding. The groomers have not been out yet due to lack of snow. There are sections that need more signing work. Please contact the trail bosses if you would like to help. Always.... Remember to respect land owners by staying on the designated trail and thanking them for allowing us the privilege of riding on their property. When conditions deteriorate, do not ride. Many land owners are concerned about excessive property damage caused by snowmobilers riding with minimal snow. Trails will likely be closed if they are abused. Four wheelers, motorcycles and other off-road vehicles are not permitted on snowmobile trails unless individuals have permission from the land owner. There is a new trail conditions message board for central NY. Check it out: Help make this site more useful for everyone.
