DRYDEN-CAROLINE DRIFTERS 2009-2010 NEWSLETTER HELLO MEMBERS!!! Well it’s that time again time to get our snowmobiles out, tuned up, ready to ride and of course don’t forget to REGISTER them before November 30, 2009 as this will benefit our Funding for the upcoming year!!! We have lots of exciting things to talk about this year; first and foremost our first Groomer will be paid off at the end of November. It’s hard to believe a little less than 10 years ago we were all crammed in the Brooktondale Fire Department voting on whether or not we should buy such a huge expensive machine, but now look at us we have 2 beautiful groomers and will be in the process of potentially purchasing another one!!! We have come a long way over the past decade. We have some of the most beautiful trails to ride; we have lots of new trails in the Berkshire area and most especially in the Groton area. Our funding for next year is expected to be near $40,000. The new Southern Tier Map will be available in November with over 1000 miles of trails on it and is very well marked and detailed. We are always looking for lots of volunteers to keep our club going strong, we are up to over 200 members now and this is a volunteer organization. We cannot all make the meetings, understandably, yet there is so much that can be done without coming to a meeting e.g. (clean trails, sign and mark trails, recruit members, SELL, SELL, SELL our cash raffle tickets, support our events, etc.). Just contact any of our officers and our groomer trail bosses if you’re interested in helping out a couple hours here and there all of their contact info is on our website at www.dcdrifters.net so please visit our site. We still have a very small core of dedicated members doing the majority of our work to keep our club growing strong and as always we always welcome new volunteers to join this group to continue our growth. This past year has been a slow one with not a lot of snow BUT we think the snow gods are going to bless us this year. Below is a list of our events for this season: Wednesday, November 4th – 7:30 p.m. Membership Kickoff Meeting at the Dryden VFW, food to be provided!!! Saturday, December 5th – Youth Safety Course from 8-4 at the Dryden VFW hosted by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, this is free to anyone over the age of 10 and we do provide lunch. You must pre-register by calling Missy Cooper at 657-8448 or email at coop24@frontiernet.net we are only allowed 40 students this year so this is a first come first serve basis. Our Annual Cash Raffle – Drawing to be held after our Poker Run on February 6, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Dryden VFW. Missy has tickets and we will keep the same format as always, $4,000 grand prize with 10 - $100 ticket winners, ALL TICKETS will be in for ALL DRAWINGS. Early bird ticket sales are once again 10 tickets for the price of 9, cash advance sale only. This is our ONLY FUNDRAISER for the year, let’s sell all 1000 tickets, if every member purchased only 5 tickets we would reach our goal, so please SELL SELL SELL and support our club!!! We can also mail you these tickets just contact Missy for tickets. Saturday, February 6th, 2010 – Our Annual Poker Run we have lots of new stops and surprises this year we really our going to try and make this years one to remember, more details to follow the closer we get!!! As always there is lots of trail work to be done so please help out as best as you can, keep a close eye on our Website and we hope to have updates on it starting in November just as soon as they are available. Anyone with any pictures they want to share with the club please email us and we will get them posted!!! Classified Ads also can be sent to the website if you have sleds, trailers, or other snowmobile related items you would like to try and sell. Membership is already taking place for this year and you may register through our NYSSA website or we have Membership Forms right on our website, let’s see if we can hit 250 members this year!!! We’ve come along way over the years, the club is moving in a positive direction with lots of exciting new things yet to come, we hope to see you at a meeting our on the trails soon.
